NJ Decks & Outdoor Living is built by a close-knit team of family members and trusted professionals who share a deep respect for craftsmanship, clear communication, and doing right by the homeowner. Spanning three generations, our team blends decades of hands-on building experience with thoughtful planning, organization, and customer care. From leadership and design to project management, marketing, and behind-the-scenes operations, every person here plays a meaningful role in creating outdoor spaces that are well-built, well-managed, and truly personal.
Bruce Verblaauw
Bruce is a second-generation owner who’s been part of the business nearly his whole life. He’s done it all, from hands-on work in the field to keeping daily operations running smoothly. His deep experience and steady leadership help drive every project forward. Off the clock, Bruce enjoys puzzles to unwind and keep his problem-solving skills sharp.
Judy Verblaauw
Judy is one of our owners and part of the sales team. She’s one of the friendly faces you’ll meet when we come out to talk about your project. She loves helping homeowners bring their outdoor dreams to life, from the first conversation through to the final design. When she’s not working, Judy is likely in the garden, baking something delicious, or spending time with her two amazing grandkids.
Ashley Helbig
Ashley is a part of the third generation of our family business and has been part of the team since 2011. She leads Finance and HR, making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes and that the team stays supported and happy. In her downtime, she’s usually crocheting while listening to an audiobook.
Ally Commoroto
Ally is part of the third generation of our family business and wears a few hats as our Admin, Marketing, and Project Coordinator. She’s the go-to point of contact for customers, making sure every detail stays on track from start to finish. She also runs our social media and marketing, sharing the outdoor transformations we’re proud of. Outside of work, Ally is a proud dog mom and a passionate advocate for rescue animals.
Damon Mohrle
Damon is a Sales Consultant with a hands-on, client-focused approach. He’s all about clear communication and attention to detail, helping homeowners bring their vision to life with a space that fits their style and needs. Outside of work, you’ll usually find him with family or out on the water kayaking.
Chris Stergion
Chris is a Project Manager and a third-generation carpenter with deep roots in the trade. He spent years working alongside his father, learning to do things the right way from the ground up. Chris brings craftsmanship, experience, and a calm, dependable approach to every job. After spending so much time outdoors, he can usually tell the time of day just by looking at the sun.
Cornelius Verblaauw
Cornelius founded the business in 1970 with a simple goal: build with integrity and treat every customer like family. A skilled craftsman and dedicated father, he laid the foundation for a legacy rooted in hard work, honesty, and pride in every detail. Though he’s no longer with us, his vision continues to guide everything we do. The care he poured into this business lives on through the generations of his family who proudly carry it forward.
